Services

Every client and website has different needs, and I take pride in finding solutions and designs that fit those needs. As you look through my portfolio, I hope you’ll notice the individuality of each site.

Functioning as the hub of your marketing and communication, a website can be a complicated beast. Part of the joy I find in my role is helping simplify everything about your life on the web.

The links below explore some of the more common solutions involved in my sites and projects, though real-life projects include many more options and details.

WordPress Design and Development

If you can think it, I can do it in WordPress: custom themes and plugins, customizing existing premium themes, personalized training, or just helping you get rid of the ‘smiley’ on the stats plugin!

Responsive Design

Not every site has to have a responsive layout, but there are many categories of sites for which tablet- and phone-friendly layouts are a must. I can craft responsive layouts for existing sites, or start new website projects off on responsive footing.

Search Engine Optimization

Everybody wants the top spot in Google for their relevant keywords. While SEO is not the black art some consider it to be, getting results is not something you get by flipping a switch; I can help plan for better results.

About Christopher

headshot

I expected to get great design from Christopher when I first asked him to rework my website and blog — I’d seen his work, and I liked that no two WordPress sites that he designed looked alike. But what I got in addition to great design was someone thoroughly interested in understanding my business and my clients. Christopher asked me really smart questions — some of which I had to think about before answering. And then he developed designs that were both creative and strategic. Christopher also gave me lots of ideas about how I could optimize what I was doing.

And even now, long after the initial re-designs, I rely on Christopher for advice on new things I’m thinking about. He’s REALLY easy to work with, and he’s honest — about costs, about deadlines, about his thoughts on what works and what doesn’t. I couldn’t recommend him more strongly; I am a thoroughly delighted client of Outward Focus.

— Sheila Campbell, Wild Blue Yonder

No matter the project, I take my job as a designer and developer very seriously. I love to make beautiful, functional, and usable websites, and pay ridiculous attention to getting the details right.

I am a self-taught jack-of-all-things web, equal parts designer and coder. A few things that I love: Photoshop, WordPress, jQuery, clear communication, common sense, over-delivering, and friendliness.

Standards, semantics, CSS3 & responsive design mean something to me; I do my best to deliver web projects that meet contemporary needs, anticipate future standards, and degrade gracefully for older browsers and devices. And while I keep up with the latest and greatest in web trends, I help real world projects with real world budgets come to fruition with considered application of the cutting edge.

For clients and contracts, I have served many roles:

  • brand developer
  • web designer
  • WordPress ninja
  • print designer
  • information architect
  • UI/UX designer
  • HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript hand coder

And that's just the official stuff; between the coded lines, I also talk common sense, find solutions and options on a budget, and keep a sharp eye on user experience and business goals. Learn more about my web design services.

My Professional Toolkit

My knowledge of media query based responsive designs is growing rapidly, as I've had the privilege to update the layout of several sites recently to have tablet and phone sensibilities.

Working on the social and productivity app DreamTool gave me in-depth experience with jQuery and the fundamentals of organizing a rich JavaScript library of tools.
